HARVEST FAIRE

The club participated in the annual Harvest Faire at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, Middletown, RI, on September 29th and 30th. As usual, we setup a HF and VHF station; however, this year we operated our special event station using the call sign, K1R.  We used the club's Jupiter transceiver on HF.  The HF antennas consisted of a R8 vertical, and a G5RV wire dipole.  As the R8 just covers 40 through 10 meters, the G5RV was used on 80 meters.  A VHF transceiver was used with a portable J pole antenna on two meters.

Red Cross Disaster Tent and Equipment

The theme of this year's Harvest Faire was Emergency Communication. The Newport Radio Club and the America Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter cooperated in the emergency communication area.  We showed what Ham Radio could do in an  emergency,  and the Red Cross showed the some of the facilities they use during  an emergency. The hams

support the Red Cross as one of their served agencies, and the Red Cross depends upon the Hams to provide back up communications in an emergency.
